After 20 years of growing and making Pinot Noir we have a new home in South Gippsland.

Our story.

Corner Inlet has its roots in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. It started back in 2003 when David was working at the renowned Moorooduc Estate. A small, unexpected parcel of a neighbors Pinot Noir arrived looking for a home and Allies was born. Over time the volumes grew, the range expanded but always the core was Pinot Noir. After ten years of tending numerous tiny Pinot Noir vineyards across the Peninsula, David and Sophie realised that to continue to improve they needed to create their own vineyard, free of constraints and designed along modern ideas of Pinot Noir viticulture. Pinot Noir is diabolically hard to master, its demands just the right climatic conditions combined with meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard. Economically, a vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula was unobtainable but they wanted to find a place with cool winters, moderate summers, regular rainfall during the summer months, a dry autumn and moderately fertile soils. Eventually the search was narrowed to South Gippsland and finally a block of land was chosen on the outskirts of Foster. They named the new winery Corner Inlet, due to its very close proximity to it and hints at its coastal environment. From 2020 to 2023, 12500 Pinot Vines were planted to a variety of favored clones at a relatively close spacing. A winery was constructed at the same time, with the goal of being able to produce wine sustainably and with carbon neutrality. 2023 was the first harvest, a small one, with more wines to come as the vines come into production and mature.
